Amazon in Australia is proud to support the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in 2020.

Amazon’s Fair Day and float theme this year is ‘Unbox the Love’ – a celebration of sharing your authentic, original, and best self with the world.

This year Alexa will adopt her drag queen persona and join in on the fun by helping you get involved in all things Mardi Gras. Ask Alexa for some fun Mardi Gras facts, her thoughts on Cher or what you should wear for the parade.

Amazon has always been, and always will be, committed to diversity and inclusion. We seek people from all backgrounds to join our teams, and we encourage our employees to bring their authentic, original, and best selves to work. We believe every Amazonian should feel comfortable sharing their unique perspectives and every Amazonian should seek out the perspectives of others.

glamazon is the LGBTQI+ affinity group for Amazon. glamazon helps make Amazon in Australia and New Zealand, great places to work by educating and informing employees about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and/or Queer (LGBTQ) issues, events, meetings and information. The group mentors employees (LGBTQ and allies) and promotes diversity and visibility in recruiting and throughout Amazon. The group sponsors events and PRIDE parades around the globe. glamazon supported the creation of a Transgender Toolkit for managers and employees to use when going through a gender transition in the workplace.

Twenty years ago, glamazon was started by one employee who created a simple email list to connect with other LGBTQ+ Amazonians. We have come a long way – now, glamazon has more than 60 active chapters around the world who work closely with HR and business teams to create an inclusive workplace, host hundreds of community events, and celebrate Pride annually.

As our founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said when receiving the HRC Equality Award in 2017, “We want our employees – and the communities where we operate in – to embrace that we’re all human, we’re all different, and we’re all equal.” We are convinced that we will continue to make progress together.

In the US, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation's 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) gave Amazon another perfect score of 100 this year.

About Affinity Groups

Amazon in Australia has a number of affinity groups, also known as employee resource groups, which bring Amazonians together across businesses and locations across the country and around the world.

With executive and company sponsorship, these groups play an important role in building internal networks for creating a community, advising Amazon business units, leading in service projects, and reaching out to communities where Amazonians live and work.
