Amazon Associates banded together to support our local communities during the festive season
2020 was difficult for many – with more people than ever before facing isolation, hunger and homelessness in the communities that surround our Fulfilment Centres (FC) and Delivery Stations. Over the Christmas period, the team got involved to support charities and not-for-profit organisations that help people in need in these areas.
Glen from MEL1, our Melbourne fulfilment centre, is one of the team who put his hand up to help. Glen helps run the 1st Nunawading Scout Group. It’s a team of over 100 young people aged between 6 and 26 which aims to promote the development of young people to become responsible citizens and active members of their local, national and international communities.
Over Christmas, Glen and the 1st Nunawading Scout Group packed 60 food hampers to give to Wayss in Dandenong. Wayss provides Homelessness Support Services to people facing homelessness, including assistance to obtain and retain housing to help them avoid entering the homelessness services system.
Due to COVID-19, Wayss has been overcapacity, often turning to motels to help families avoid homelessness. For many of these families, food security remains a key issue.
The hampers included food favourites and treats for Christmas like Tim Tams and Candy Canes to help bring a smile to the faces of families who struggle to afford food at Christmas time.
Glen said, “Scouts teaches people from a young age to ‘help other people’ so when I saw this opportunity I knew it was the perfect way that my group could give back to the community after the year it has been.”
Sean from Wayss said, “These hampers bring a lot of joy and hope to people who would otherwise have had nothing at Christmas.”
We thank all of our Associates and the groups who are getting involved to support communities in need over the holidays.
